Growing up in rural Alabama, I was lucky to spend a lot of time outdoors as a child, exploring, playing, and just relaxing. As an educator, I've found that many children are not so lucky and some, when given the opportunity to go for a walk in the woods, are fearful. EEA is working to give teachers the tools to make sure that all of Georgia's children are able to enjoy, appreciate, and learn about the great outdoors and all its wonders.
EEA provides professional development opportunities for teachers regardless of their chosen discipline. As a historian, I have found the wisdom of many EEA members invaluable as I have been called upon to teach not only social sciences, but also environmental education at my workplace. Help me pass on this legacy and get more Georgia teachers and students outdoors!
The funds I raise through Mighty Cause will be used to support programs like:
- The Petey Giroux Dragonfly Grant, which provides funding for projects that blend environmental education and the performing or visual arts.
- The Symbolic Migration Program, which connects students across North America, as they learn about the migration patterns of Monarch butterflies.
- The Scholarship Fund, which allows teachers to attend the Annual Conference for free.
- The Operating Fund, which supports all of the above efforts and many more.
Please join me by supporting these programs!
EEA provides critical content and pedagogy training for classroom and informal educators across the state through their Annual Conference, the Outdoor Learning Symposium, and Monarchs Across Georgia. Learn more at http://www.eealliance.org/
