Ashland Speech and Debate has five outstanding students who have qualified for the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament. More than 7,000 students will compete in Richmond, VA from June 14-19. This will be Ashland’s 38th trip to Nationals, returning for the first time in five years.

During COVID, Ashland’s storied team ceased to exist. This is only the third year with a team back at the high school. Students had to learn how to succeed from the ground floor. Their hard work has led to group accomplishments, notably getting third place in speech and overall sweepstakes at the Jean Ward Invitational at Lewis & Clark. Our 2026 Nationals squad is a mix of seniors who have dedicated themselves to rebuilding the program getting a well earned send off and sophomores who can take this unique experience back to the team.

The team has incredible support from the school and school district for in-state competition, but the cost of out-of-state events falls on us. We need to fundraise in order to cover travel, lodging and our entry and judging fees. Money donated here on MightCause goes directly to AHS with a minimal processing fee taken out. If you are not able to donate right now, we appreciate you sharing the word. Thank you for helping send our students on a journey they won’t forget!
