Dear Friends,

Happy Holidays!

As many of you know, we are a community non-profit that hires, trains and ultimately empowers adults with disabilities  through work in our food service businesses.

We believe that through training and employment, adults with disabilities become financially and personally independent and feel that sense of empowerment.

We love these recent employee photos and will be sharing more on our website and Facebook page in the days and weeks to come.

Thank you so much for your interest in the work we are doing to improve the lives of our employees with disabilities through work, training and meaningful engagement in our community.

We know that we are changing the view of what it means to have a disability.   We are breaking down barriers and fostering understanding through delicious food and great service!

2017 was a big year for Ada's:

  • We opened a location in San Francisco at 375 Beale Street and have employed 17 new adults with disabilities with a range of disabilities including profound deafness, cerebral palsy, PTSD and traumatic brain injuries.   We also hired a Syrian refugee who lost his left arm in the conflict. Mohammad applied for work at over 50 businesses in the Bay Area but no one would even consider his application. On Mohammad's first day with us, he baked and frosted a cake that was served at our cafes.

  • We continue to grow the Palo Alto Cafe and our SF Peninsula catering business through mostly word-of-mouth marketing.

  • We collaborated and provided in-depth research for Access Earth  for People with Disabilities.  We have been invited to the United Nations in early 2018 in Vienna to share in our collaboration.  A Quote from Access Earth CEO, Matt McCann,  "The partnership with Ada’s Café has been invaluable to Access Earth. Through the research conducted by Ada's, we have been able to get insights from people with disabilities and accessibility needs. From the research we know so much more about our users. Together, we have created a product that is easier to use, addresses the needs of our target population and helps the community at large. We are excited to take forward our partnership, as the app is showcased at the UN headquarters in Vienna, 2018."

  • Ada's is so proud to now provide Health Insurance for our eligible employees.

  • Ada's received a 2017 Small Business of the Year Award from the California State Assembly.  Thank you to Assemblyman Marc Berman for believing in the work we are doing!

  • We have grown the social enterprise and mission with plans for an Ada's Cafe in Mill Valley, and have been approached by representatives from Orinda, New York City, Chicago and Guam. We know we are on to something really good and hope you will help us as we help others.

Our Labor costs are high because of our collaborative work model and dedicated service.  With mandated wage increases coming, we are happy to be a part of the movement to help get food service workers  closer to a livable wage in the Bay Area.

In order to continue to do our great work and maintain our quality, we need funds to pay for training, educational programs, health care and research that will positively impact our employees and many others around the globe.

We greatly appreciate your support!  Thank you in advance for your help!

Please come in and see us in Palo Alto, Mountain View  and San Francisco!

Happiest Holidays to You and Yours,

Kathleen, Peter, Charlie and Everyone at Ada's
