Alan Edwards
Transplant Type: Kidney
Alan Edwards is awaiting a new lease on life. Several years ago, he was diagnosed with diabetes. Over time, it has taken a toll on his body. As a result, Alan is now legally blind and suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). He has been on dialysis for four years, which affects his quality of life and leaves him very tired. Doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary.
During this difficult time, Alan is thankful for the love and support of his family and friends. He has two grown daughters and two grandsons who are ages nine and three. Alan’s illness causes worry for his family, and prevents him from being the active father and grandfather he longs to be. It also puts a strain on his brother, because Alan relies on him to transport him to his many medical appointments. Alan enjoys visiting with his brother as they travel to appointments and to the grocery store, and is thankful for his assistance.
Alan looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free him from dialysis and give him back his energy. He wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can enjoy quality time with his family, travel, and have his life return to normal. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Alan is unable to work due to his health, further adding to his financial burdens.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Alan. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Alan Edwards” in the memo line.
