The first recorded account of this sweet giant (94 pounds!) running stray was on October 2, 2023 near Apple & Harrison Roads in Osceola. Fast forward to October 23, 2023, she was spotted again but this time miles away in Lakeville. Unfortunately, it appears she was hit by a car at some point during her travels.

An animal control officer was able to rescue her and our friends at Roseland Animal Hospital provided x-rays of her apparent leg injury. The prognosis? A severely fractured femur. Since then, she has been receiving round-the-clock pain management and care from our medical team.

We've posted her on our website, social media, and reached out to our neighboring animal control agencies, and no owner has come forward. She had no collar, no chip, and no name.

Today, October 23, 2023, is a big day for this sweet gal. We've named her Amelia, after the late great traveler Amelia Earhart. In addition, she is also undergoing surgery to have the injured limb amputated. Our friends at Magrane Pet Medical Center are providing her the best care, but we will need the communities help to pay for Amelia's surgery (estimated to be $2,300-$2,500).

We are also in need of a foster home that Amelia can rest and recover in. This foster home would ideally have easy access to inside and outside areas for potty time since she will be adjusting to only having three legs. To allow Ameila to heal, she will need to be kept separate for other animals & children so no accidental bumping or rough play will happen during the recovery time. If this sounds like a home you can provide, please apply to foster at https://humanesocietystjc.org/adopt/foster/.

Whether you can donate, share this post, or foster, any & all help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
