Parenting is hard. Really hard. Â And with kids who have emotional, behavioral, or academic challenges, it can seem impossible.
For these parents, life is an exhausting whirlwind of appointments with therapists and specialists who often leave them bewildered with conflicting advice. Add on the financial strain of treatments and it becomes even more obvious that something needs to be done.
We know this because weâve seen hundreds of these parents in our occupational therapy practice and what really kills us is knowing that so many of these conditions are preventable.
For the past few years, weâve been encouraging parents of our school-aged patients to bring in their babies. After wrapping up a session with the older sibling, we would show the parent simple but effective exercises to do at home with their babies.
We wanted to see if we could help these babies before any challenges arose by pre-empting any genetic tendencies that might need occupation therapy down the road. What happened was astonishing. These babies never needed us!
The parentsâ efforts to build healthy brains from the start worked, and they were thrilled
These parents begged us to spread this knowledge beyond our practice and today weâre ready to do that.
Weâre launching Hands On Parents, a nonprofit to educate families to take a proactive approach which can prevent anxiety, sensory problems, and learning difficulties.
Itâs time to educate parents on the extraordinary results that happen when parents are hands-on with their childrenâs development.
We need YOU, those who are bold enough to imagine a world where parents are knowledgeable and empowered, to step forward and make this a reality.
Hereâs how you can do that:
1. Donate to our crowdfunding campaign. Every dollar makes a difference in effecting change.
2. Share the secret with others who know the challenges of families with children who struggle in their daily functioning.
Hereâs where your donation will go:
1. The development of a website to serve as a guide for parents with the tools and resources they need.
2. Live virtual workshops and webinars to teach parents how to optimize their childâs development.
3. A discussion forum to let parents share tips, tools and resources that have helped them.
4. Outreach to parents who struggle with their children's behavior and functioning.
We need your support to make this life-changing knowledge available to parents everywhere.
Our ambition to completely revolutionize what resources parents and children have to lead better, healthier lives canât happen without people like you behind us.
Help us change the conversation from cure to prevention and donate today.
Letâs build this together,
Amy and Evelyn Guttmann OTR/L
