Andy Farres

Transplant Type: Kidney

What if you were living on borrowed time?

Andy Farres has received a second chance at life. He has been diabetic for many years, and his battle with diabetes took a toll on his kidneys. Andy was forced to begin regular dialysis treatments. These treatments removed toxins from his blood but left him exhausted and took a toll on his quality of life. Andy’s condition continued to worsen, and doctors said a kidney transplant was critical. Thankfully, Andy received his new kidney on May 9, 2021!

During such a challenging time, Andy is thankful for his five children, family, and friends. He wishes they didn’t have to be so concerned about his health, but he is grateful for their love and support. Before his health began to decline, he enjoyed working, traveling to visit his children in Florida, and spending time with his family and friends who live nearby, but his deteriorating health limited all of his activities. Andy looks forward to fully recovering from the transplant so that he may be healthy enough to be independent and active again, and to spend many more years with his loved ones, but right now, he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Andy’s a new life comes at a very high price.

Even though Andy has already received his transplant, and his health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

Since Andy lives more than five hours from his transplant center, he and his caregiver will need to stay near the hospital during recovery. Also, they will need to travel to the transplant center often for follow-up evaluations and doctors’ appointments, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging, adding to the financial strain.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Andy.

If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125.  Please be sure to write "in honor of Andy Farres” in the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
