Tony Chalas

Transplant Type:  Liver

What if you were living on borrowed time?  Tony Chalas is fighting for his life. Last year, he was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease. His diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no family history of liver disease. His condition leaves him tired and takes a toll on his quality of life. Doctors say a liver transplant is critical.

During this difficult time, Tony is grateful for the love and support of his wife, Shelley, and their family and friends, including their 17-year-old daughter. His illness prevents him from being the active husband and father he longs to be, and takes an emotional and financial toll on his family. Tony enjoys spending time with his family, playing music, and outdoor activities, but his health prevents those things now. He looks forward to receiving a transplant that will save his life and allow him to feel like himself again. Tony wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can have more quality time with his family and resume a more active lifestyle. But right now he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Tony’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price. The average liver transplant costs approximately $812,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and expensive anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Tony’s health forced him to stop working, further adding to his financial burdens.

What if your life depended on the compassion and generosity of others? The National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve the growing burden of expenses for Tony. NFT has been assisting transplant patients with fundraising support for more than 35 years. Your gift—of $25, $50, $100 or more—will enable NFT to provide Tony with the financial support he desperately needs.

If you have any questions about NFT, feel free to contact the staff at 800-489-3863.  Many Thanks!
