This is so exciting!

Update posted 5 years ago

Thanks in part to a recent donation from Bay Nature's butterfly expert Liam O'Brien, we're less than $100 away from $5,000 -- which brings us very close to our goal to keep our Ask The Naturalist feature alive and well! Could you share our campaign with your friends and help us get all the way there by the end of the day?

Have you ever wondered...

  • Why do turkey vultures have red heads?
  • Are daddy longlegs are the most venomous animal?
  • And, why are there humpback whales in the SF Bay right now?

Our popular “Ask the Naturalist” column answers reader questions about Bay Area nature & wildlife, bringing you closer to the natural world around us.

We share our well-researched answers online for FREE to everyone, thanks to readers like you who've chipped in to support "Ask the Naturalist".  But we need your help to keep it going!

This year, we want to answer even MORE of your questions about weird wildlife, fascinating phenomena, common nature myths, and everything in between.

Will you pitch in to keep “Ask the Naturalist” alive?

Your gift goes directly to Ask the Naturalist, supporting the expert naturalists and Bay Nature editors who dig up the answers to your nature questions.

Give today to help us:

  • Answer seasonal nature questions from readers like you
  • Publish well-researched responses that bring you closer to the natural world around us
  • Support our Bay Area community of naturalists, nature experts, and writers
