WE REACHED OUR $10k GOAL AND ARE EXTENDING OUR CAMPAIGN TO RAISE $20,000

We called, and our amazing community showed up and showed out. Thanks to your support we passed our initial goal of $10K.

We say Medase (thank you).

We are excited to announce that we have extended our Mightycause campaign and set a new goal of reaching $20,000. With your continued support we can move closer achieving our larger goal of $100K to fund renovations for our new space"

We recently hosted a fundraising reception, An Intimate Evening of Appreciation And Giving at the historical Akwaaba Mansion in Brooklyn, and State Senator Kevin Parker presented us with a special proclamation recognizing our ongoing services to the Brooklyn community.

During our reception we asked for guests to match the $1755 that we had raised on Mightycause, and our Ember Charter School partners stepped up and made the matching pledge.

ASASE YAA CULTURAL ARTS FOUNDATION
NEW HOME RENOVATION

WHAT WE’VE BEEN DOING
In 2022, the Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation is celebrating its 20th anniversary! We’re incredibly excited to announce two milestone events that capture both what we set out to accomplish when we officially launched in 2002 and what we’re aiming to achieve in the decades to come.

Because of the pandemic, we faced tumultuous challenges like so many other non-profits. Abruptly, we had to shutter our in-person activities for the School of the Arts, the African American Dance Theater, the Community Arts Outreach Program, and the Children’s Summer Arts Camp. We had to pivot to all-virtual programming and later adopted a hybrid approach, fusing both virtual and in-person formats. We had to make the best of an unprecedented moment in society but thanks to the unwavering dedication of our extended family, we prevailed. In 2022, we returned to in-person engagement for all classes and activities! We know that the best way to create and experience art is through live, human interaction so we are grateful to our community for the support that came in a variety of ways.

THE 2022 COMEBACK!
Our comeback has been a triumphant one! In May, the Asase Yaa African American Dance Theater performed at DanceAfrica 2022 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, our School of the Arts performed its first finale recital in two years (June 19), and our Children’s Summer Arts Camp launched its 15th season in June.

Still ahead is our 20th-anniversary musical, It Was All a Dream. The milestone event, which doubles as our annual fundraiser, will be held at Tribeca BMCC Performing Arts Center in Manhattan on Saturday, August 20.

A NEW HOME FOR ASASE YAA
The triumph continues with Asase Yaa’s acquisition of a building in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. We are thrilled to be moving to a 3,500-foot space this summer. Located at 1005 Greene Avenue, the property will be our headquarters for the next decade. And more than housing our operations and programs, 1005 Greene Avenue will be a dynamic, nurturing gathering place for our children, our families, and the community at large. We’ll host public programs such as the Evening with the Artists series, performances of our new works, and much, much more.

RENOVATION HAS BEGUN. HOW YOU CAN HELP.
To turn our new home into the dream space we aspire to create for our youth, we need your support. The grand total needed to achieve the dream is $100,000. We’re asking the community to donate just a portion of that today. We aim to raise $10,000 by September 1.

Your donation will help to bring the following renovation plans to life:

  • Three dance studios with sprung wood Marley dance flooring
  • An event rental space for local public programs
  • A wellness and meditation room
  • Floor-to-ceiling mirrors in the building
  • State-of-the-art lighting, sound equipment, and audio-visual systems
  • A full HVAC system

No donation is too small or too big. You can donate anonymously, in honor of a loved one, or publicly. Either way, every single dollar gets us closer to our goal. Please donate whatever you can today

We founded Asase Yaa on the principle of sharing African art and culture at its highest level. Not only to share its importance, but to foster pride, dedication, a deeper sense of community. Our new home will enable us to continue to fulfill that mission to empower our youth’s growth, learning, and deepen their commitment to invest in themselves and their community for generations to come.

We thank you in advance for your support.
