According to the United Nations Development Program, “Access to quality education remains key to Haiti’s social and economic development…Statistics show that generations of Haitian youth are at risk for not having the necessary knowledge and basic skills to succeed in the labor force and contribute to the continued development of this country”.
Arup's Toronto Office, in collaboration with Haiti Health Initiative (HHI), is designing a community run school for the residents of the rural community of Timo. We are confident that the building of this school will provide this generation of Haitians with an improved quality of education and prepare them to contribute to the development of their beautiful country.
The first phase of the school is scheduled to be built in the summer of 2017. However, for students to be able to attend school and be provided with a school meal program and financial supports, we need your help! Every dollar of your donations will help a child to get closer to their dream of a proper education in a safe and enriching environment.
Haiti Health Initiative (HHI) is a nonprofit organization focused on serving the public health needs of the rural Haitian people. HHI’s philosophy in working with the Haitians is best summarized by this quote from Gordon B. Hinckley: “Bring all the good that you have and let us add to it.” HHI’s aim is to support current healthy living practices and promote sustainable and culturally appropriate change by working side by side with local and international partners.
