Carla’s COVID Relief Fund for the Boys&Girls Club

Family & friends, 

    I know we're facing difficult times. Bills are tight and too much uncertainty surrounds us. The pandemic & the social unrest has really highlighted the inequalities that still exist in our society.  I feel that majority of us wish we could help somehow- but it's easy to feel small in a world this big. What difference can one person make? I've asked myself this question many times in my short life.  I promise you, it's a BIG one.  

    I started working at the Boys & Girls Club in Athens when I attended UGA. It fit my schedule & I like kids, so I felt it was a good match. I can’t put into words the impact those kids had on me.  Kids don't ask for a lot, they just want to feel cared about, respected, and supported. I gave that to them from showing up, helping them with homework, and being the referee for their 4 square game. I didn't realize what I meant to them that year, until it was announced it was my last day. Kids I didn't think liked me, cried and told me they wish I didn't have to go. My little friend Kemari, a second grader who could shoot a 3-pointer easy as cake told me how much I meant to him and that I would always be one of his best friends. 

     You don't have to give a lot to make a difference, and I encourage you to volunteer at a club. I would be very thankful to receive any type of donation you can provide. No amount is too small.  I know there's a lot of worthy causes but this one is close to my heart. Each year, more than 4,700 kids walk through their doors and find academic resources, mentorships, and a place to just be a kid. Donate today to help youth learn about the world around them, live a healthy lifestyle, and become leaders among their peers and in the community.
