Cora was found this weekend in a box while we were on the ground during a Trap-Neuter-Return campaign in southwest Virginia. We were able to reunite Cora and another kitten with her mom. Their mom had done a great job caring for them, but when we picked Cora up we found a large wound on her back. It was the size of a cherry tomato and oozing infection. Cora isn't even a pound yet, so this is a potential life-threatening injury for such a small kitten. Her mom is doing the best she can to keep it clean, but we need to get her to a vet immediately. Cora came back with staff to Northern Virginia so she can get the attention she needs.

She went to the vet just a few hours ago and they found that the wound is millimeters away from her spinal cord. We have to stop the infection before it spreads and leaves permanent, irreparable damage. She'll need frequent rechecks at the vet to keep on top of her progress and to make sure the wound can drain properly. When she gains a little more weight, she might even need a drain put in, but she's currently too small for the necessary anesthesia to put one in. We can't help Cora and others like her without your support.
