Benny Barrette
Transplant Type: Liver
Update: We are thrilled to report that Benny received a transplant on December 26, 2019!
Benny Barrette is fighting for his life. He has been sick for more than ten years with a life-threatening liver disease. Unfortunately, liver disease runs in his family and his father suffered from the same illness. Benny has been hospitalized frequently, and his illness leaves him tired and takes a toll on his quality of life. Doctors say a liver transplant is critical.
During this difficult time, Benny is grateful for the love and support of his wife, Rose, and their family and friends. Benny has two grown children and two grandchildren, and his illness prevents him from being the active husband, father, and grandfather he longs to be. Benny’s illness is difficult for his family, and causes them a lot of worry. He looks forward to receiving a transplant that will save his life and allow him to feel like himself again. Benny enjoys doing yard work, going fishing, and attending football games, but his declining health prevents him from doing those things now. He wants nothing more than to be healthy so he will be able to have a normal life with his family, have more energy, and no longer suffer from memory issues. But right now he needs your help.
The average liver transplant costs approximately $740,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and expensive anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Benny’s declining health forced him to stop working, further adding to his financial burdens.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Benny. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Benny Barrette” on the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
