Back in 1994, six families with children who had Down syndrome joined together to form a parent support group. They met on a regular basis, usually in each other’s homes, to discover solutions to the special needs of their children. Finding that San Antonio lacked vital, sustainable programs for persons with Down syndrome, dedicated volunteers founded the Down Syndrome Association of South Texas (DSASTX). Twenty-two years later, these families together with Executive Director Terri Mauldin and her team, have remained a powerful force.
The DSASTX is a small, grassroots organization, with three full-time staff, who are all excited to participate in the 3rd year of The Big Give. We would love to celebrate by throwing a party, scheduled for 6-10 pm, Tuesday, May 3rd, to include free food, games, and a movie. We would be honored to have as special guest, David DeSanctis, the star of "Where Hope Grows" (2014). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN7TlwduYsM
David grew up with an interest in drama, choir and broadcast journalism and participated in all three during high school. David was slowly adding to his resume as a host, often on the microphone for local events that supported people with Down syndrome, like David.
Today David resides with his parents, Bill and Julie, in Louisville, KY, and can only travel with one or both of them. He is an avid reader with great computer skills. He keeps busy with Special Olympics; participates with the Louisville Adaptive Rowing Team and loves a good game of tennis. He also has a great appreciation of music, and would be happy to make you a mix CD including your favorite singers. David keeps up with family and friends on Facebook while looking forward to his next acting opportunity.
