On 18th April 2016, I will be running the Boston Marathon to raise money for Soccer Without Borders.

$3,605

raised by 23 people

The kind people at Soccer without Borders are allowing me to coach the elementary program this spring. In repayment for bringing a new style of “English long ball football” to the states and for potentially ruining the chances of a future USA World Cup victory, I have offered to raise some money by running the Boston Marathon. Money raised will go directly to Soccer Without Borders in East Boston for equipment, kits, rental spaces to play.

Soccer Without Borders uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change for underserved youth in the US and abroad.

Soccer Without Borders provides free programs to immigrant youth and families in East Boston, a neighborhood of Boston that has more foreign-born residents (nearly 50%) than any other neighborhood in the Boston Metro area. Today, the majority of East Boston residents hail from Latin America, and this is reflected at SWB Boston where participants and their families most commonly are from El Salvador, Colombia, Guatemala and Mexico.  SWB first launched in 2012, in partnership with the Let's Get Movin' (LGM) Program of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, after families from LGM showed significant interest in a consistent and free soccer program in their community.  By creating a safe space with supportive coaches and mentors, the program helps youth make meaningful connections, learn about teamwork and develop skills that youth can use on and off the field.
