Breon Hicks
Transplant Type: Kidney
What if you were living on borrowed time?
Breon Hicks is awaiting a new lease on life. He has suffered from kidney disease for several years. Unfortunately, kidney disease runs in his family. In 2013, due to the damage from battling this illness, he went into kidney failure. Breon was forced to begin regular dialysis treatments which leave him exhausted and take a toll on his quality of life. Now doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary. Breon will need to continue dialysis treatments until a kidney is found.
This has been a difficult time for Breon as he is not able to be as independent and active as he once was. Before his health began to decline, Breon enjoyed going to the beach, trying new foods, and bike riding, but these days, his activities are quite limited. Breon looks forward to the transplant that will allow him to live life with as few limitations as possible, but right now, he needs your help.
Unfortunately, Breon’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.
The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Breon lives more than 240 miles from the transplant center, and he incurs substantial expenses each time he visits for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. When he receives his transplant, Breon and his caregiver will need to stay near the hospital, during recovery, adding to the financial strain.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of David.
If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Breon Hicks” in the memo line.
