Transplant Type: Kidney
Brian Craighead is awaiting a new lease on life. In 1998, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Six years later, he was diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes. In 2017, he was diagnosed with Stage-5 renal failure, and since then his kidney function has steadily declined. Brian went on dialysis last year, which leaves him tired and takes a toll on his quality of life. Doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary.
During this difficult time, Brian is thankful for the love and support of his wife of 15 years, Sarah, and their family and friends. Brian enjoys spending time with his wife, traveling, going to horse races, and attending sporting events. Unfortunately, his declining health and dialysis schedule make it difficult for him to do these things now. He looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free him from dialysis and give him back his energy. Brian wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can live his life to the fullest, be able to travel spontaneously with his wife, resume the activities he once enjoyed, and have a more normal life. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Brian is working with two different transplant centers, and one of them is nearly 300 miles away from his home. Depending on where he receives his transplant, he may have to temporarily relocate, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Brian’s illness forced him to stop working, further adding to his financial burdens.
