Hi It is Giving Day for Apes - an annual event set up to help sanctuaries who care for orphan apes (orphaned principally by their mothers having been killed for bushmeat and the babies attempted to be sold into a largely 'perceived' market for baby chimpanzees as pets or for personal zoos abroad, which means they are kept in terrible conditions and if lucky, confiscated by the authorities and cared for at an accredited sanctuary).

Sanctuaries rely on donations from thousands of individuals to meet their annual operating costs. Lwiro Primates cares for 94 chimpanzees (including the 6 that were confiscated this year!) - I give 2677$ that covers the annual cost of caring for the chimpanzee named Ushiriki after our Ushiriki consortium EDRC CAP Grauer's gorillas and chimpanzees. This is a very low annual cost compared to other facilities - all the money is going to their care.
