Candace WatkinsTransplant Type - Kidney
We are thrilled to report that Candace received her transplant on December 25, 2013!
In March of 2013, Candace learned she was suffering from stage-5 renal disease, and her kidneys were functioning at just 13 percent. She was shocked to receive this diagnosis, as she has no family history of kidney disease. Doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary.
Although this has been a difficult time for Candace, she is incredibly thankful for the love and support of so many loved ones. This diagnosis has been a tough burden for her entire family, but it’s also been a blessing in that they’ve all become much more serious about a healthy diet and lifestyle.
Candace is grateful for everyone who has prayed, called and simply been there for her and her family during this time of need. She stays active by taking walks, spending time with loved ones, shopping and attending church. After receiving her transplant, she looks forward to living a long and healthy life because she firmly believes the best is yet to come.
The average kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant medical expenses related to the surgery. She will need a lifetime of follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. These medications are very costly, and they’re as important to her survival as the transplant itself.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Candace. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Candace Watkins" on the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
