Caroline David
Transplant Type: Double Lung
Caroline David was blessed with donor lungs on March 15, 2021 after a 2 year 6 month wait.
Caroline was originally listed at the UWMC in Seattle, WA September 2018. Caroline and one of her caregivers traveled to Phoenix, AZ late in 2020 for evaluation into their program and was listed in February 2021. In 2016, she was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis lung disease. Her condition came as a shock, as there is no family history of lung disease and there is no known cause for her condition. Caroline required the assistance of supplemental oxygen to help her breathe during the wait for lungs.
She and CeCe (caregiver & niece) are currently living in Phoenix, AZ to be close to her transplant team with Norton Thoracic at Dignity Health St Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, AZ over 1,300 miles from her home.
During such a difficult time, Caroline is thankful for the love and support of her family and friends. She comes from a very tightly knit family, and they all worry about her health.
Caroline is grateful to have gone from Tubes and Tanks to Trails and Thanks. When her health allows, she enjoys being in nature and going hiking. Caroline wants nothing more than to be healthy again so she can go on long hikes and fulfill her goal of visiting Alaska. But right now, she needs your help.
The average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million, and that is only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Caroline faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant procedures and medications are expensive. They are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
The transplant center is 1,300 miles away from Caroline’s home, and she has had to temporarily relocate. Monthly appointments are required and she will have to stay nearby while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Thanks to remote abilities, Caroline has been able to return to work part time, but she often must miss work for medical appointments.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Caroline. If you would prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Caroline David” on the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
