Cathy's $20K for 2020

Dear Beloved Friends and Family, 

Over the last three years, trying to understand the mental health landscape in the Korean American community has not been easy, but the journey has shown me that this work is absolutely necessary.

We started by hosting small workshops in Boston-area churches right after grad school.

It is the reason why our MSG community has individually sacrificed so much- showing up for 7 am meetings on a Saturday, going door-to-door to speak with church leaders, setting up concerts, packaging boxes to send out to supporters, translating through the night, logging into Zoom calls until 10 pm after a full day of work, running a conference from Korea at 1 am, creating graphics and videos, selling tickets and jewelry, and so many other acts of love that bring tears to my eyes.

Why? Because this work hits us all personally and deeply. We have all seen the devastating impact of social stigma, cultural/linguistic barriers, and lack of awareness on the health of ourselves, our families, and our communities. However, I also saw firsthand the healing that takes place when we build bridges together- across cultures and across generations (see our national summit video from this summer). I want this next generation to be equipped with the tools, resources, and knowledge that prior generations did not have but so needed. 

When my teammates and I relaunched MSG in 2017, we simply prayed that we would come to know God more deeply through this work. He certainly delivered on that promise and brought us many incredible friends along this journey. 

It truly takes a village. This season, I invite you to join me as we step in faith into deeper waters and dream big on behalf of our communities.

1. Educating KA families on improving inter-generational relationships through a series of webinars

2. Equipping KA church leaders with tools to recognize mental health risks through Mental Health First Aid training

3. Empowering KA mental health professionals to collectively address mental health issues in the KA community through a national summit for KA mental health professionals.
