When poverty comes to school.

Nearly 58% percent of children under age 18,live below the poverty line, that is, in households with incomes less than $23,550 a year for a family of four.Children living in poverty often come to school without having had enough sleep, and without having had breakfast. They often experience family violence, abuse,,neglect, poor clothing and shoes.Even though they have limited experiences in the world, they may not be able to pay for field trips and cannot pay for extracurricular activities of any kind, which could actually expand their experience base. Poverty climbs the steps of the school bus in the morning, when a child comes in from the cold with no jacket or proper winter clothing, some of you see at it during lunchtime when a student asks for a second helping because they are not getting enough to eat at home.

What can you do to help? Project Dignity created the Empowerment closet, we go into local schools and decorate closets, we fill them with winter-gear, hygiene kits, healthy snacks prom dresses, coloring and activity books. Our first Empowerment closet is tomorrow at Salina school, were working on Detroit next.If your interested in helping please see attached flyer.
thank you in advance
