Today, Central Community House is participating in #GivingTuesdayNow, a new global day of giving as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. Generosity has the power to unite and heal communities in good times and bad. A global threat like COVID-19 touches every person on the planet, but also provides opportunity to come together as a community.  We invite you to connect with us on social media to follow along and partner with us to respond to these challenging times. While the world has changed dramatically over the past 7 weeks, Central Community House has continued to be there for our neighbors in need:

  • We’re always available to talk on the phone to ensure that community members are able to meet basic needs like food, housing, and health. On average, we are supporting 50 unique individuals weekly that have been impacted by COVID-19.
  • We’re checking on and talking with over 130 seniors every week to combat loneliness and isolation. We’re also providing early morning trips to grocery stores, and protective equipment for safe shopping.
  • In lieu of our monthly Community Dinner, we’re providing hot “grab and go” meals to anyone in need. Last Wednesday, staff and volunteers distributed 94 meals to hungry neighbors.
  • TRANSIT ARTS is connecting with students across the city on Zoom, Google Classroom, and social media platforms to provide engaging live experiences such as virtual “Open Mic Nights.”
  • Our youth program staff are creating 2-3 videos per week which encompass art activities, storytelling, and integrate educational lessons. Supplies to complete activities are also delivered to our students’ doors. Check out the videos on YouTube.
  • In addition we’re delivering supplies, snacks and meals to ensure youth have everything they need at home to stay healthy and continue learning. Since March 25, we’ve delivered 3,140 meals to after school families –  two meals per child per family per day.

Today, we press on and continue to do everything we can to support community members. But we need your support.  Will you join us for this global day of giving by making a donation today? Here’s how your donation can help:

  • $10 can help purchase 10 basic protective masks for seniors we’re transporting to grocery stores during the special hours reserved for vulnerable populations.
  • $25 ensures that our transportation drivers can drive another 45 miles to drop off needed food and supplies for neighbors in need.
  • $50 will purchase art and educational supplies to deliver to our after school youth for weekly educational and creative activities.
  • $100 can provide 50 “grab and go” meals for our next monthly Community Dinner.
  • $250 can purchase a Chromebook so a student can stay connected to school, participate in digital creative lessons,  and maintain contact with the teachers and teaching artists they know and love at Central.
  • $500 can help us prevent a family from being evicted from their home due to a loss of job or income.

Every act of generosity counts, no matter the size. We hope you’ll act today, and share how you’re giving back to your community through Central on social media. Remember to tag us and use the hashtags #PeopleAreCentral and  #GivingTuesdayNow. In the meantime, we wish you health and safety, and hope we can see you at Central Community House as soon as we can!
