377 Active Duty service members died by suicide in 2020 compared to 280 in 2016, and the rate increases every year. Additionally on average, 22 Veterans take their lives every single day. That’s over 641 people every year to suicide alone, and more troops take their own lives than died in combat.
FitOps is an organization that works to “improve the physical and mental health of veterans by creating purpose and community through the power of fitness. We believe that fitness is transformative to every aspect of our lives, and that a community that encourages a mindset and lifestyle of physical, mental, and emotional health is the way to help veterans achieve greatness in life after they serve.”
FitOps and it’s team leads are hosting a 22-mile event on June 26th and June 27th; We will come together not only as a nation, but as a community in support of National PTSD Awareness Day, and our shared mission to end veteran suicide. We invite you to join us on to complete a distance of 22 miles, symbolizing the 22 veterans that we lose to suicide every day. You may walk, jog, run, bike, hike, row, swim it, or any method or combination of exercises to complete this! The distance challenge will take place across the country on June 26th, followed by a day of reflection on June 27th.
I, Keturah, personally encourage you to take a stand with us, either by donating, starting your own fundraiser, or broadcasting your 22-mile contribution for the cause, because no person deserves to believe that there is no way out of hardship other than death. Thank you for your support!
