Cheryl Lynn Bean

Transplant Type: Kidney

Cheryl Lynn Bean is awaiting for a new lease on life. She was diagnosed with lupus in 1998 when she was only 28-years-old. Lupus turned her life upside down and left her with an uncertain future. By 2003, it had damaged her kidneys and caused them to fail. She went on dialysis, first Peritoneal (PD) for four years and then Hemodialysis for three. Finally, in 2013, after seven long years on dialysis, Cheryl Lynn received a kidney transplant. Unfortunately, within four short years, she began experiencing kidney issues again; and in 2017, her newly transplanted kidney failed.

Cheryl Lynn is back on dialysis, which takes a toll on her quality of life and leaves her very tired. Doctors say a second kidney transplant is critical. Cheryl Lynn is searching for a living donor. During this difficult time, Cheryl Lynn is thankful for the love and support of her husband, Kui, and their family and friends. She has temporarily relocated to Denver, Colorado being closer to her daughter. When the time is right, Cheryl Lynn is very much looking forward to becoming a grandmother. Cheryl Lynn is ready to receive a second transplant so she can be free from dialysis and feel more like herself again. She wants nothing more than to feel better so she can return to work and enjoy a nice, "normal" day. Right now, she needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Cheryl Lynn still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Cheryl Lynn is working with transplant centers in Hawaii at Queens Medical Center, Presbyterian St. Luke's in Denver, and in Oklahoma at the INTEGRIS Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute. Depending on where her transplant takes place there may be additional expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Her illness and dialysis treatments have left her no choice but to put her CDL on hold for now, so she is unable to work, further adding to her financial burdens.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Cheryl Lynn. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Hawaii Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125.
