At a recent local event I stopped at a booth called Team Endure which is a Fundraiser for the Oregon Cancer Foundation. Team Endure is made up of individuals who train and compete in a triathlon and each participant donates money and fundraises for the cause. Money donated goes directly to individuals afflicted with cancer so that their basic needs such as rent/mortgage, electricity and other bills will be met.
A good childhood friend of mine who was both a cancer researcher and athlete died at the age of 39 due to bile duct cancer. He died 13 months after his diagnosis. Because he was so ill, he was only able to work for one week during those months. A friend of ours was able to pay his rent and all bills since he lived alone and had no other source of income.
I'm inspired to help others live comfortably in their households as long as they can.
Though believe me I'm no triathlete or spring chicken I do love sports and that was something Jay and I shared. I'm proud to be able to represent him and everyone affected by this disease.
One for all and all for one. Let's beat cancer.
