Cheyanne May Benson

Transplant Type: Kidney

Cheyanne Benson has a new lease on life. In 2013, she was diagnosed with Stage-3 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Her diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no family history of kidney disease. Cheyanne has two types of ANCA vasculitis, but her doctors are unsure of how long it was active. Her illness eventually reached Stage-5 CKD, and doctors said a kidney transplant was critical. Thankfully, Cheyanne received a transplant on January 29, 2020!

Cheyanne is thankful for the love and support of her family and friends. Her illness has caused worry for her family, and at times, she has missed out on activities with them because her energy level was so low and she had to be so careful not to get sick. Cheyanne looks forward to fully recovering from her transplant and living her life to the fullest. She enjoys hiking, golfing, and hunting, and is ready to resume those activities once she is able. Cheyanne wants nothing more than to put her health issues behind her so she can live a normal life and have more energy. She is thankful to her donor for giving her a second chance at life. Even though she has received her transplant, she still needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Cheyanne lives nearly 300 miles from her transplant center, and the frequent trips back and forth are expensive. She had to temporarily relocate to be nearby while she recovered, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. She had to stop working while she received her transplant and during her recovery, further adding to her financial burdens.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Cheyanne. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Utah Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Cheyanne Benson” in the memo line.
