Hello everyone, this is Hampton, I graduated from West Forsyth in 2017 and graduated from Appalachian State University in May of 2021. You may or may not know this about me, but in 2016 I was in a cheerleading accident that led to a skull fracture along my coronal suture. Through the months of doctor’s appointments, physical therapy, and cognitive rehab that followed, we discovered that I had acquired a type 1 Chiari malformation, which means that my cerebellum extends past my skull and into my spinal cavity. This is a rare condition that affects about 1 in 1000 individuals. I have started this fundraiser to raise awareness for this defect and financial support for “Conquer Chiari” a group that spearheads research and awareness for the issue. I am asking that you consider donating if you have any interest in contributing to this cause and being a part of this movement that means so much to me. We are accepting donations and sponsorships to any degree. If a financial contribution is not feasible or of interest, I ask that you consider reposting information that we will be distributing for the cause via social media. Thank you again for your time and consideration. I appreciate any support you can offer!

--Since sharing my story, I have had many people ask about my current symptoms. While I am very lucky, I do endure daily migraines, sensitivity to light and sound, changes in physical ability related to weather changes, forgetfulness and high levels of distraction, and an extreme level of exhaustion after regular tasks. I am fortunate that my condition does not require surgery, however, this is the only option that would alleviate my symptoms. I am attaching a link that better explains this extremely invasive and risky surgery for anyone that is interested! I would also like to add that most individuals living in chronic pain do not choose to share this or make this a part of their identity. I am hoping that this will shed light and give others a space to share their experience, despite the prevalence of their condition.
