Chris Deitrick

Transplant Type: Kidney

Chris Deitrick is awaiting a new lease on life. In 2001, he had weight loss surgery. Initially, it worked very well, but a year later, he began to gain weight for no reason. His doctor referred him to a nephrologist, where he learned he had 100 pounds of extra fluid built up in his body. They removed the fluid and did a biopsy on his kidney. At that time, he was diagnosed with Membranous Glomerular Nephropathy. Over the next eight years, Chris tried different treatments, but nothing cured his disease. Now his kidneys have failed and he is on dialysis, which leaves him tired and takes a toll on his quality of life. Doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary.

During this difficult time, Chris is thankful for the love and support of his family and friends. Chris enjoys outdoor activities like going to the lake, swimming, sightseeing, and playing with his nieces and nephews, but his illness prevents those things now. He looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free him from dialysis and give him back his energy. Chris wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can live his life to the fullest, resume a more active life, and have many more years with his loved ones. But right now, he needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Chris’s illness forced him to stop working, further adding to his financial burdens. All donations are greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!
