Christine Charles

Transplant Type:  Kidney

What if you were living on borrowed time?

Christine Charles is awaiting a new lease on life. She suffers from high blood pressure and diabetes and has battled kidney failure for many years. Her illness came as quite a shock, as there is no family history of kidney disease. Christine’s condition has continued to worsen, and now doctors say a kidney transplant is critical to her survival. While awaiting her transplant, Christine must endure regular dialysis treatments. These treatments leave her exhausted and take a toll on her quality of life.

During such a challenging time, Christine is thankful to be surrounded by a strong support system of family and friends. While it has been very hard for Christine and her loved ones, these circumstances have also brought them closer together, strengthened their trust in each other and in the Lord, and given them perspective on what matters most in life. Christine looks forward to the transplant that will allow her to live life with as few limitations as possible. She is ready  get back to singing in her church choir and start living her life again, but right now, she needs your help.

Unfortunately, Christine’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that is only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Christine does not live near her transplant center and must travel every time she has an evaluation or doctor’s appointment. When she receives her transplant, Christine and her caregiver will need to stay near the hospital during recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging, adding to the financial strain.

What if your life depended on the compassion and generosity of others?
