Chris Gentile
Transplant Type: Kidney
Update: Chris received a kidney transplant on November 14, 2019!
Chris Gentile is awaiting a new lease on life. In 2011 he was hospitalized for pneumonia. At that time, he was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure due to uncorrected hypertension. Chris is now on dialysis, which takes a toll on his quality of life and leaves him tired. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical.
During this difficult time, Chris is thankful for the love and support of his family and friends, especially his long-term girlfriend, Judy, and her two children. His illness causes a lot of worry for his loved ones. Chris looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free him from dialysis and help him feel like himself again. He enjoys spending time with Judy and her children and fishing—but his activities have to be planned around his dialysis schedule now. Chris wants nothing more than to be free from his health issues so he can enjoy life with his loved ones. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Chris’s declining health forced him to stop working, further adding to his financial burdens.
