Chris Hill
Transplant Type: Kidney
Chris Hill is awaiting a new lease on life. He was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease when he was only 24 years old. His diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no family history of kidney issues. Chris has lived with his illness for the past 22 years, and his kidney function has declined over time. He is now on dialysis, which takes a toll on his quality of life and leaves him very tired. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical for his survival.
During this difficult time, Chris is thankful for the love and support of his family and friends. He has three sons who range in age from 13 to 19, and he has been sick their entire lives. He looks forward to receiving a transplant that will give him back his energy and allow him to be the active father he longs to be. His declining health limits his activities, but he used to enjoy gardening, mechanics, and fishing. Chris wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can make up for lost time with his sons and be able to play sports with them and watch them grow up. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Chris still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Chris lives 183 miles from the transplant center, and he has to travel back and forth for appointments. When he receives his transplant, he will have to temporarily relocate to be nearby while he recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Chris’s health forced him to stop working, further adding to his financial burdens.
