My house in Tampa was hit by Hurricane Ian. We are rebuilding the house and need help.

14 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit

In November 2018, after more than 14 years behind bars—including a decade on Florida’s death row—Innocence Project client Clemente Aguirre was exonerated of all charges in the 2004 stabbing deaths of his former neighbors.

He had only been in Florida for one year, having escaped attempts of gang recruitment in his native Honduras, when he was arrested and sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit.  Clemente is now living in Tampa, FL, as he begins the long process of trying to finally become a U.S. citizen.

Despite DNA evidence clearing Clemente and confessions to the murders made by someone else, Clemente spent 10 years on death row, and another four years in jail awaiting his trials.  While fighting to prove his innocence, Clemente dealt with serious medical and dental issues that went unchecked. While he was on death row, the prison pulled many of his teeth instead of tending to them.

Since Clemente is not legally authorized to work in the US until his immigration status is resolved, he is relying on donations from the community to cover his day to day living expenses.

We are asking people to donate in order to help Clemente begin again. Any amount is helpful.  All funds will go directly to Clemente for things like medical care, food, clothing -- and also simple joys that come with freedom like books and trips to the movies.  (Note that the donations are not tax-deductible because they go directly to him, rather than the Innocence Project).

Help Clemente on his journey towards autonomy, comfort and freedom. Be a part of addressing the wrongs that have been done to him. Donate today!
