Let’s get Colson his Service Dog!!!

Hi, my name is Colson. I am 4 years old and have autism, mixed receptive-expressive language delay, and sensory processing disorder. This means everyday has its own obstacles. For example, I struggle with communicating and understanding others when they communicate. I have trouble fully comprehending things, such as potential danger. My sensory system interprets things differently than others which can be very stressful and make me anxious. Because of this (and many other reasons) my parents have decided to apply for a service dog and guess what??!! I got accepted! Can you imagine? My OWN dog to help me with all my specific needs!!

Here are just a FEW of the ways a service dog can assist me

  • Redirect me if I start to become dysregulated
  • Help regulate my sensory system by providing deep pressure to soothe and comfort me
  • Track me if I run off (I’m a runner)
  • Help to prevent my self-injurious behavior

Being accepted for a service dog is just the first step. Next is fundraising and this is where I need your help! I’ll let my mom take it from here😊

Hello, we are the Parisey Lee family! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

Colson was 1.5 years old when he was diagnosed with “level 3” autism, meaning he requires significant support. There are so many amazing resources available to support autistic children and we are looking at all the best resources to give him a bright and safe future, and a service dog is not only a game changer, but also a life changer and possibly if the situation arises, a life saver!

A service dog can assist Colson by

  • Aiding in Transitions
  • Providing a sense of comfort and safety
  • Accompanying him to school or doctor appointments allowing him to participate in these activities for growth and development
  • Keeping him safe around water, roads, and in large public places
  • Preventing elopement and wandering
  • Keeping him safe and regulated in social settings such as school
  • Building his confidence
  • Improving his quality of life by allowing him to experience things he otherwise wouldn’t have been able to
  • And MUCH, MUCH more

Having a service dog trained in these skills will allow Colson to live a less anxious life, giving him 24 hour support.

The process of getting a service dog is long and expensive, ranging from 2 - 2 1/2 years and $40,000-$60,000. Colson has been accepted by a non-profit called 4 Paws 4 Ability where they will breed, raise, and train the dog specifically for Colson’s needs. We need to raise $20,000 to help 4 Paws For Ability with the cost.

If you’d like to support Colson in his journey of getting a service dog, there are a few ways you can do so.
