Connie Ramsey Parrott

Transplant Type: Double Lung

Update: Connie received a transplant on September 17, 2019!

Connie Ramsey Parrott is awaiting a new lease on life. For the past few years, she’s experienced lung issues that are consistent with interstitial pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Connie has Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and in September 2018 she experienced a flare-up in her lungs. Since then, her lung function has declined and she now requires the use of supplemental oxygen to help her breathe. Doctors say a double-lung transplant is critical to her survival.

During this difficult time, Connie is thankful for the love and support of her husband of 49 years, Michael, and their family and friends. She is a mother and a grandmother, and her family worries a lot about her. She’s unable to be as active with her grandchildren as she once was.  Connie looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free her from supplemental oxygen and allow her to live her life to the fullest. She enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, taking part in Bible studies, and crafting—but her health limits her activities now. Connie wants nothing more than to be healthy so she can resume the activities she once enjoyed, have more energy, and talk and sing without worrying about having enough air. But right now, she needs your help.

The average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million, and that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Connie lives 165 miles from her transplant center and traveling back and forth for appointments can be expensive. When she receives her transplant, she will have to temporarily relocate to be nearby while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Connie’s declining health forced her to drastically cut back on her work hours, further adding to her financial burdens.
