Corina Ramirez
Transplant Type: Kidney
Corina Ramirez is awaiting a new lease on life. As a child she suffered an infection, which led to Corina finding out she was ill in 2009. The following year, she began regular dialysis treatments, which have taken a toll on her quality of life. Adding to the stress, once Corina began treatments, she was no longer able to work. Now doctors say a kidney transplant is critical.
During this difficult time, Corina is grateful for the love and strength of her family. She has been married for 27 years to her husband, Daniel. Corina also has three children, one granddaughter, and a supportive extended family. Corina’s illness has been tough, both emotionally and financially, for her everyone who loves her.
Before Corina started dialysis, she loved playing basketball but now is unable to do much physical activity. Thankfully, she is still able to embroider, which brings her great joy. Corina is looking forward to going back to work and enjoying life to the fullest after her transplant.
The average kidney transplant costs approximately $335,000. And, that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
The National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve the growing burden of expenses for Corina. NFT has been assisting transplant patients with fundraising support for more than 30 years. Your gift—of $25, $50, $100 or more—will enable NFT to provide Corina with the financial support she desperately needs.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Corina. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Colorado Transplant Fund, 3249 W Sarazen's Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Corina Ramirez on the memo line.
