Update on Court: ‘Dogs’ on Netflix

Update posted 5 years ago

Hello Everyone!

It has been a few months since our last update as we are now in the waiting period until it gets closer to Courtney’s class date in 2020! Courtney’s seizures have definitely been throwing her some curveballs in the last few months so we are eagerly awaiting for our time to head out to Ohio!

We wanted to pop in with some exciting news we recently saw as well! If you’re curious at all as to the process we will be going through when Courtney receives her dog, you have to check out the first episode of the show ‘Dogs’ on Netflix! (Link Below) The first episode of the series features children receiving their service dogs through 4 Paws for Ability, the organization Courtney is receiving her seizure alert dog through! You will get an inside look into the 12-day training period we will go through before bringing the dog home. I was brought to tears watching, so happy and eager for Courtney to be in that position so soon. We wanted to spread more knowledge on this and show you what an impact you will be having in Courtney’s life.

Once again, my family and I couldn’t be more thankful for the love and support we have received throughout this entire process. We hope everyone is having a great holiday season and a happy New Year!

EXCITING NEWS COMING IN THIS POST!

As some of you may know Courtney lives with a variety of health conditions (Cerebral Palsy, Autism, OCD, Sensory Integration problems) that have impacted her ability to live independently. One of the most impactful conditions that she lives with is Epilepsy, which affects her every day. She is on a plethora of medications, natural remedies and has a VNS implanted in her chest to help regulate her seizures. All of these resources greatly help decrease her seizures, however, it is still something that she deals with frequently.

Now for the EXCITING NEWS!!! Courtney has been accepted through the 4 Paws for Ability organization to have her VERY OWN SEIZURE ALERT DOG! After a thorough application process, she was selected to receive her very own companion who can not only alert her when she is about to have a seizure but also let those around her know that she has had a seizure. These dogs are amazing animals and come at a price and applicants are encouraged to fundraise for the $17,000 that they cost. They are bred to meet Courtney's specific needs and receive extensive training over a period of time. Once funds are raised, Courtney will attend a 12-day extensive training session with the selected dog before bringing it home. Unfortunately, none of the cost for a service dog is covered under insurance.  It will truly be worth every penny to help improve Courtney’s quality of life and help her gain more independence. If I could, I would use my own money to get her this! For all of those that know and love Courtney, just think how impactful such a dog would be for her! She is so excited at the thought of having her very own furry companion, too!

So we have created this fundraising page in hopes of starting to raise the funds for this amazing dog to come into Courtney's life! The organization does not start the breeding and training process until the funds are raised, so we are eager to get this step in the journey going!
