Revitalizing Communities

Rebuilding Lives

Every year in the spring, Wharton and Penn Design students participate in Rebuilding Together Philadelphia’s (RTP) "Block Build."

During this 2-day event, RTP staff and volunteers provide essential repairs and renovations to make Philadelphia families safe and healthy in their homes.

  • RTP homeowners have incomes of no more than 80% of area median income (AMI).
  • Over half of our homeowners earn 30% or less of AMI ($26,200 for a family of four)
  • With a poverty rate of 26% and over 12% of Philadelphians living in deep poverty, RTP services are needed now more than ever.

Although many low-income homeowners spend as much as 50% of their limited income on home repairs, the cost of maintaining an aging home is more than many families can manage.

  • With thousands of people on the City’s Basic Systems Repair waiting list, there is clearly a dearth of resources available for the low-income homeowner.
