Update posted 4 years ago

Greetings to all of our donors and soon to be donors,

We are making progress on this fundraiser, but we still need your donations; every little bit helps in a HUGE way and we thank all who have already made a donation but encourage all who haven't to please reconsider doing so; even just a small amount is appreciated immensely.

Craig is holding strong and trying to be upbeat and positive, but it gets harder each and every day that this is prolonged for him to continue to be positive and upbeat; I try to keep him entertained as much as I possibly can to keep him smiling!!  He's a wonderful and caring man, spouse and human being that only wants his quality of life to improve by having this double lung transplant so that he can enjoy getting out even in the yard again without having to carry his portable oxygen machine and chair everywhere he goes!!

Please consider making whatever amount of donation you can to this fund to help him achieve this goal of a new chance at life!!

Sincerely,

Beau & Craig Smith

Craig Smith

Transplant Type:  Double Lung

What if you were living on borrowed time?

Craig Smith is fighting for his life. In 2015, he was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). At first, Craig’s symptoms were manageable.  He was even able to continue working, which shocked his pulmonologist. Unfortunately, his condition continued to worsen, and in 2020, Craig’s health began to deteriorate rapidly. Now, doctors say a double-lung transplant is critical to his survival.

During such a challenging time, Craig is thankful to be surrounded by a strong support system of family and friends. His beautiful wife, Beau, has have been by his side every step of the way. Their wonderful family and friends have provided much needed love, encouragement, and support. While it’s been very hard for Craig and Beau, these circumstances have also brought them closer together, strengthened their trust in each other, and given them perspective on what matters most in life.

Before he became ill, Craig enjoyed working in his yard, shooting his guns, and spending time with his loved ones, but these days, his activities are quite limited.  Craig looks forward to being free from his oxygen tank so that he can live life with as few limitations as possible, but right now, he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Craig’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Craig.  If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Oklahoma Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Ste 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Craig Smith” in the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
