Enzo is just 5 weeks old and already, he's been through multiple hands. Someone was giving away kittens. Another someone took him in, then realized they couldn't care for him. That someone surrendered him to Homeward Trails, and we're glad they did.
Enzo was separated from his mother too soon. His immune system didn't have time to fully develop, and now he's sick. He has severely crusty eyes and nose which may be a sign of URI? Pneumonia? He's underweight--barely more than a pound. He has an appointment with the vet this afternoon to figure out exactly what's going on, and what we need to do to keep him going.
Kittens are fragile. Their health can change in a moment! There is no wiggle room for "wait and see." They need care as quickly as possible to support their growing immune system. Whenever possible, kittens should be left with mom until at least 8 weeks of age. Enzo wasn't given that chance, and now his little body is paying the price.
