I'm Ryan Thompsen, older brother of fallen Illinois State Trooper Corey S. Thompsen (EOW 10-18-2024).
Corey was an incredible human being, a loving husband, a grateful son, and someone I'm proud to be the brother of. He was married last June, and I was fortunate to be his best man. He was living in our childhood home with his wife, Chelsea, their two German Shepherds, and was building a life that I was excited to witness. My brother's dedication to his family and to his job are qualities I hope to reflect in my own life.
On October 18th, 2024 however, his future was taken away in a crash that occurred only minutes away from his home. He was hit while riding his ISP motorcycle after concluding a traffic enforcement detail, and died that afternoon.
I am fundraising for my participation in the annual IL Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) Cycle Across Illinois, and when you make a donation, you are supporting the families of Illinois Police Officers who have died in the line of duty like my younger brother, Corey. My family was supported by COPS from day 1 through today. The director for the IL chapter, Kim Cessna, is an incredible human being and someone I'm happy was with my family in the immediate aftermath of Corey's death. In the wake of my family's complete devastation, COPS was there for us with unwavering support.
This organization is made up of great people carrying out a heart-breaking, but immeasurably compassionate, task. It is in my brother's honor and memory as well as my support for the IL COPS organization that I'm riding this year.
I ask that you please donate whatever amount you feel called to give towards my goal of $1250. I greatly appreciate your support and thank you for letting me share Corey's story.
