The COVID-19 crisis is radically changing the world. We are all doing our best to socially distance, care for others, and maintain our spirits. We have been so heartened by the stories from around our neighborhood of people reaching out and helping others. Your generous support in the past has been instrumental in maintaining our vibrant community. Right now, we urgently need your charitable support to help Arlington’s most vulnerable residents stay safe, healthy and connected.
Culpepper Garden staff are doing everything we can to protect the health and safety of our residents and staff. Culpepper Garden has implemented comprehensive measures to restrict visitors who are not deemed essential, paused our months’ long renovation, suspended all in-person volunteer-led programs and activities, and with it, our standing calendar of resident programs. All staff and visitors sanitize frequently and check temperatures when entering the building.
We are implementing creative approaches for enabling our isolated, homebound seniors to stay active and socially connected. Our Friendly Caller program launched this month with 13 volunteers conversing with residents weekly. Youth groups, neighbors and caring businesses have sent cards, fabric masks, flowers and encouraging messages.
However, even as our residents need more support, our main sources of funding are at risk. We have had to tentatively reschedule our largest fundraiser, the Annual Springtime Party, until September. The Party brings $180,000 of critical support that we need now. Additionally, Arlington County, which has supported Culpepper Garden residents for decades, is forecasting a $56 Million budget shortfall.
Amid so much uncertainty, we need your help to meet the rapidly changing needs of our community. Please consider donating to Culpepper Garden during this time of extreme need. Your donation of $100, $500, $1,000 – or a larger amount, if you are able -- will have an immediate and positive impact on the lives of our most disadvantaged seniors and ensure that we have the resources needed to get through these challenging times and beyond. Thank you for caring!
