Birthday fundraiser for Austin Area Urban League

For my 36th birthday, I'm asking my friends and family to donate to the Austin Area Urban League, a local nonprofit that does a tremendous amount of work providing resources to our Black community and helping to erase some of the social, educational and economic inequality between communities such as rental and mortgage payments, home repairs, education and health care costs. (You might also know the AAUL as the chillest place to vote in town.) I'll match up to $100 but I bet we can do a lot better than that. Think of it like, if you can't buy me a drink, then donate your money here (a margarita costs $6 at Workhorse, just for an example)  Let's go!

The mission of the Austin Area Urban League is to provide tools to African Americans and under-served populations to build a foundation for social and economic equality. Our mission is implemented by focusing on programs and services in the areas of educational improvement, workforce and career development, health and wellness, and the preservation of safe and affordable housing. 

The Austin Area Urban league is committed to empowering the community through innovative programs focused on providing accessible education, housing, jobs, and heath care for all people. We ask you to join us as we expand our efforts to reach communities beyond the Austin city limits.

Your support will make it possible for the Austin Area Urban League to:

1.  Invest in more reliable transportation to execute our programs and events. 

2. Provide Bus Passes/Gas cards for dedicated clients who travel to classes on and off-site. 

3. Provide Emergency Bill pay for clients, in moments of need including housing, health and utilities.

4. Provide critical repairs to homes

5. Provide work attire for job readiness program graduates, who may not be able to afford their mandatory wear. 

6. Grow, improve and sustain our world-class programming that empowers our Austin community and changes lives.
