Cindy McPherson
Transplant Type: Lung
Cindy McPherson has received a second chance at life. In 2014, she was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and given no hope for survival. But Cindy is a fighter, and four years later, she has hope of beating her illness through transplantation. Doctors said a lung transplant was critical, and Cindy was added to the transplant waiting list in February and received a new lung on April 8th.
During such a challenging time, Cindy is thankful for the love and support of her husband, Dan, and their family and friends. Her children and grandchildren are very worried about her health, and are hopeful a transplant will give them many more years with her. Cindy looks forward to a life that will free her from her oxygen tank and allow her to return to some of the activities she once enjoyed like skiing, boating, ice skating, and snowmobiling. Before her illness, Cindy was also very involved with community and church groups. She hopes to be able to continue her work in the community once she is healthy. Cindy wants nothing more than to spend many more years watching her grandchildren grow up and to grow old with her husband. But right now, she needs your help.
Unfortunately, Cindy’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.
The average lung transplant costs more than $929,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the cost of the transplant, she faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant it Cindy and Dan will have to temporarily relocate to be near the transplant center while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging.
