Hi, I'm an Aussie living in Lubumbashi,
Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
I'm so lucky to be volunteering at the most incredible chimpanzee sanctuary, J.A.C.K.!
These orphaned chimps are in our care as a result of the horrific meat and exotic pet industries. Many of these innocent creatures have also experienced the trauma of their capture in the wild - where up to 10 adult chimps fight and die to prevent the theft of their babies. It's truly appalling.
I can say, hand on heart, that Franck and Roxi who bravely began this organisation thirteen years ago, are truly the most devoted and loving of people. Their journey to where J.A.C.K. is today has been far from easy - especially from within the depths of such a troubled nation.
But it's also a story of success! J.A.C.K. has achieved its mission and chimpanzees are no longer for sale on the streets of Lubumbashi!
What we urgently need is...
To cut to the chase, we are raising money to install a water system at the sanctuary. This is desperately needed. It's the dry season and there hasn't been a drop of rain since March. Often when I am at J.A.C.K. helping to wash donated dusty fruit and veggies, I turn the tap on and nothing comes out. It's that critical.
To combat this, we are determined to install 2 huge water tanks, 2 water pumps, the plumbing material required to connect these systems to all areas of the sanctuary, alongside 3 water filters to ensure water is free of bacteria.
As we are such a small organisation, your gift goes straight to the cause. We have found a way to get these essentials to us, all we need is some extra help!
Thank you so much for your support, it truly means the world to us!
