In a community where the shelter & animal control do not support Trap Neuter Return cat caretakers have only two choices: 1. Call Animal Control to get the cats and know they will be killed; 2. Do nothing and watch cats multiply and suffer.
We are on the ground in Danville, VA where the
Danville Area Humane Society killed 87% of the cats it took in last year. We hear over & over again from community members: "We love these cats, we want to care for them but we cannot afford to spay them ourselves and we are too scared to call the shelter or animal control."And so it goes. The cats multiply. Caretakers see their colonies go from 10 to 80 and cannot afford to feed them. They WANT to stop the reproducing but simply cannot. And will not see their beloved cats killed for no reason.
And so our work here is lifesaving for the animals and the people who love them.
Calista (first photo) is a cat we met first thing today on our first day back in Danville. She is friendly outdoor cat. She is sick. She needs us. Her ears are infected and her eyes are filled with discharge. She feels rotten. She needs medical care now - that only we can provide.
Please donate to her and the others. We have already found and taken in 8 kittens in just a few hours. So sad that their births could have been prevented.
