David Hamblin
Transplant Type: Double Lung
What if you were living on borrowed time?
David Hamblin has been given a second chance at life. For the past nine years, he has battled end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and emphysema. Unfortunately, lung issues run in his family, and David lost his father to lung cancer. David’s condition continued to worsen, and doctors said a double lung transplant was critical for his survival. Thankfully, he received his transplant on December 23, 2020!
Despite his recent health obstacles, David is grateful to have a loving and supportive group of family and friends by his side. Before the transplant, David relied on his oxygen tank for every breath, and grew tired with minimal activity. He looks forward to fully recovering from his transplant so that he can have his life back. David is ready to be able to go back to church, spend time with his friends and family, and most importantly, live a healthy and productive life, but right now, he needs your help.
Unfortunately, David’s new life comes at a very high price.
The average double lung transplant costs more than $1 million. And that’s only the beginning. Even though David’s surgery has already taken place, and his insurance will cover a portion of his transplant costs, he still faces significant medical expenses related to the surgery. He will continue to need a lifetime of follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. For the first four months after his transplant, David and his caregiver must stay near the hospital during recovery, sustaining significant expenses for travel, food and lodging, adding to the financial strain.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of David.
If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Oregon Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of David Hamblin” in the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
