Children in Kenya struggle to attend school because of the cost of uniforms and school supplies. As families work hard and save to provide for their families, they also have to save to buy uniforms so each of their children can further their education. Since each uniform costs $35 and workers typically only bring home $1 a day from work, it's hard for children to attend school. Additionally, that one uniform is worn everyday for the entire school year until it's threadbare and families are forced to buy more. Our organization, Delivering Educational Support to Kenya (DESK), aims to reduce that worry and provide funds for uniforms for as many school children as we can. For just $35, you can buy a year of education for a child in Kenya and support international education for those who need it most.

About DESK

In 2010, graduate students at Ball State University came together with a common cause: give the gift of education to as many children as they can. For over 10 years, DESK has been fundraising with our faculty advisor, Dr. Winnie Mucherah, to buy school uniforms and school supplies for students at the Shivembe Primary School in Kenya. 

In villages in Kenya, students are required to buy uniforms at $35 each in order to go to school, but families can often not afford them. Our organization aims to alleviate that financial stress for families by buying as many uniforms as we can to send students to get an education. Additionally, we collect donated school supplies such as notebooks and pencils to go to the students as well. 

DESK is a student-led non-profit organization on campus led by graduate students in the Department of Educational Psychology. Throughout the year, we hold various fundraisers to support the students in Kenya. Please consider making a contribution today to support international education.
