DREAM Riverside Fundraiser 2019

For my first year at UVM, I joined a nonprofit called DREAM. In this club, we provide mentoring, adventures and enrichment opportunities to our mentees at the local Riverside community. DREAM is dedicated to closing the opportunity gap for children in low-income housing. Living in these neighborhoods is tough. Children are up to 70% less likely to graduate from high school than their more affluent peers and are unlikely to achieve a four-year college degree. Nationwide, only 9% graduate from college.

This past year, over 90% of our DREAM seniors graduated from high school, with over 50% continuing on to college. A teen DREAMer recently wrote about DREAM’s impact on her life: “DREAM was a life changing experience and it got me prepared and to think about college. Having the chance to hang out on a campus with college students and to see what college life is about really got me thinking about attending.”
